This project was produced while at STUDIOS Architecture. This was an invited competition to submit a proposal for the adaptive reuse of the underground gyms below an area leading to the Pentagon. The proposal was to create two separate uses. One for the Pentagon police, the PFPA, and another for a Pentagon library and conference center. A Ceremonial Entry is created by reworking an existing stone niche at the bottom of the Terrace stairs. This affords special occasion access directly to / from the Parade Ground. A domed skylight is used to mark the arrival. On the PFPA side, a light well would be added to bring light and life down to a garden on the lower level. |
